O Festival de Cannes está de regresso ao Sul de França entre os dias 17 e 28 de Maio e os filmes em competição na Seleção Oficial, assim como as secções Fora de Competição e Un Certain Regard, já foram anunciados. Alguns nomes já tinham sido especulados ao longo das últimas semanas, particularmente o nome de David Cronenberg e o seu novo filme Crimes of the Future (2022), rumor que se veio a confirmar. Havia também a expectativa que Elvis (2022), a biopic do Rei do Rock n´Roll pela mão de Baz Luhrmann, ou Top Gun: Maverick (2022) pudessem ser apresentados pela primeira vez ao público durante o decorrer do festival, sendo que os dois fazem efetivamente parte da secção Fora de Competição, que conta também com a presença de George Miller com o seu Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022), umas das grandes surpresas da edição de 2022.
Destaque também para Claire Denis que volta a Cannes com Stars and Noon (2022), James Gray que vai apresentar Armageddon Time (2022) e Park Chan-Wook com Decision to Leave (2022).
O filme de abertura está a cargo de Michel Hazanavicius e Z (Comme Z) que vai arrancar o festival no dia 17 de Maio mas que até agora, não tem qualquer presidente do Júri anunciado.
